Torch is a native of Harbin, China and Shenyang, China, where he spent most of his early childhood. He moved to the United States at the age of five, and has since lived in Columbus, OH, Chicago, IL, and Louisville, KY. He is currently attending college at Duke University in Durham, NC with a major in biomedical engineering and a possible minor in music. Torch is a keen fan of music. He has been playing the piano since the age of five, although he hasn't formally taken lessons since the end of middle school. He has also been an avid member of his high school's marching and concert band, playing such instruments as the alto saxophone, baritone saxophone, and various percussion instruments (his favorite being the marimba). Although his instrumental skills have deteriorated somewhat since his days of piano lessons, he still retains his devotion to music, and especially enjoys composing and arranging his own songs in Finale. Torch is also an avid writer. He has written several pieces of fan fiction for web sites such as FanFiction.Net and KOTOR Fan Media. He also gives back to the online writing community by beta-reading fan fiction whenever he gets the chance. (His favorite universe to write in is Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.) Writing poetry is a common hobby of his, and he strives to produce a piece sometimes as often as once a week. He is currently working on a fantasy novel, Songswept, which has been in the making since his freshman year of high school. Unfortunately, he's not sure whether the novel will ever be completed, but he hasn't given up yet. Torch founded Fire Team in 2004 as a collaborative young game-designing organization. Its pioneering members were Torch, Firewire, and Supernova. Although Fire Team has since disbanded due to issues such as distance and lack of free time, Torch has continued to create games, with dozens in the making (or abandoned) and several completed products. He hopes to one day become involved in the actual game-designing industry. Among his friends, Torch is known by the more common name of David.
